What Happened in Episodes 3-4: A Quick Recap

Before diving into what Episode 5 has in store, here’s a recap of what happened in Episodes 3 and 4.

Yi-rang encountered a new ghost client — a teenage girl who first appeared as a schoolgirl interested in K-pop. After investigating across entertainment agencies and trainee circles, he discovered she was Kim Su-a, a popular contestant on an idol survival show who was ranked second and close to her debut.

Su-a grew up in poverty with her grandmother after being separated from her visually impaired mother. She was scouted into an agency and joined a survival show, but her intense ambition created conflicts with other trainees. After complaints were filed, she was expelled from the agency.

On the day she was removed, someone pushed her off the agency rooftop. The only clue she remembered was an unfamiliar phone ringtone. Yi-rang traced the ringtone to a songwriter named Jeong-seok and eventually discovered that Emma, a fellow trainee who was jealous of Su-a’s talent and success, had pushed her in a moment of rage. Jeong-seok had witnessed the murder but was blackmailed into silence.

Both Emma and Jeong-seok were arrested. In a moving final scene, Su-a learned her mother had lost her eyesight and asked Yi-rang to help donate her corneas. After her mother regained her sight, Su-a peacefully moved on.

Yi-rang then told Na-hyeon about his ability to see ghosts, but she refused to believe him. The episode ended with both lawyers unknowingly picking up the same new case — setting the stage for Episode 5.

Phantom Lawyer Episode 5 Preview: What to Expect

The Episode 5 preview reveals a gripping new case. A science professor has been found murdered, and his body was hidden in the woods. His ghost appears to Yi-rang, desperate for answers about his death.

The prime suspect is the professor’s wife, who is taken into custody and faces intense interrogation. The big question of the episode is clear: Is the wife really the killer?

Yi-rang takes the side of the victim — the murdered professor — while Na-hyeon steps in to defend the wife. This puts them on opposite sides of the courtroom once again.

According to the SBS preview, things are not what they seem. The dead husband’s unfinished words are not about resentment but about apology — which could change everything about this case.

As the preview teaser puts it: “The wife says she is the victim. But if what the dead husband wanted to say was not injustice but an apology, this case needs to be re-examined from the start.”

Phantom Lawyer Ratings Continue to Rise

Phantom Lawyer has been on a ratings upswing since its premiere. The drama recorded its highest ratings yet with Episode 4, dominating the Saturday mini-series timeslot on SBS. The combination of legal drama, supernatural fantasy, emotional storytelling, and the chemistry between Yoo Yeon-seok and Esom has resonated strongly with Korean audiences.

With the mystery deepening in Episode 5 and the romantic tension between the two leads building, expect the ratings trend to continue climbing.
