Phantom Lawyer Episode 7 Recap: Na-Hyun’s Sister Returns as a Ghost — The Most Heartbreaking Twist Yet (Episode 8 Preview)

Phantom Lawyer Episode 7 just rewrote every rule this Netflix Kdrama has established. For six episodes, we watched Shin Yi-rang (Yoo Yeon-seok) solve cases that only a ghost-seeing lawyer could handle. In Episode 7, the ghosts vanish — and the most personal case of all walks right through his door.

Episode 7 aired Friday, April 3 at 9:50 PM KST on SBS, recording a nationwide rating of 7.6% with a peak of 8.3%, claiming No. 1 across all Friday broadcasts. On Netflix, Phantom Lawyer currently holds the No. 4 spot on the Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows and has maintained No. 1 on Netflix Korea for three consecutive weeks.

Yi-Rang Without Ghosts

Meanwhile, Yi-rang has not had a single ghost client in two weeks. He cleans the office, rearranges the furniture, and tells himself he is happy. But the memories keep flashing back — the ghosts he helped, the cases he solved, the connections he made.

He has utility bills piling up and no income. Bong-soo suggests he market himself at courthouses instead of waiting in the empty office. Yi-rang tries, but it goes poorly — a frustrated woman chews him out outside the courtroom.

He sits on a bench where he used to wait for his father as a child, and the weight of the moment sinks in. Then a lawyer friend passes by and refers a client his way — a case that will soon turn dangerous.

Two Lawyers, One Courthouse

Na-hyun has the same idea. With her savings drained by the lab damages, she prints business cards and heads to the courthouse to find clients. She runs into Yi-rang, tries to hide, trips, and breaks her heel.

She unloads on him — every bad thing that has happened since their paths crossed. Yi-rang quietly takes her shoe to get it repaired. While waiting, he watches her encourage a woman protesting outside the courthouse, and he begins to understand who Na-hyun really is.

He searches for young Na-hyun’s story and discovers the childhood protest — a girl fighting for justice outside a courtroom long before she became a lawyer. This is the moment Yi-rang sees past the “cold elite attorney” mask.

The Construction Scam — And a Narrow Escape

The referred client turns out to be connected to a construction fraud ring called Seongryeong Construction. Na-hyun gets to the client first, and the scam leader asks her to use a vague contract to prove his innocence. Na-hyun is smarter than that — she pretends to take the case, tricking the gang leader into revealing the fake title deed.

She slips out to call prosecutor Kim. But back inside, she gives herself away when she hears footsteps and assumes it is the prosecutor. It is not.

Yi-rang arrives just in time. Together they grab the documents and run — literally — from the gang. Prosecutor Kim shows up at the last moment to arrest the criminals. Yi-rang is injured during the scuffle.

Na-Hyun Opens Up — And the Devastating Ending

Na-hyun visits Yi-rang after the arrest. They share drinks, and for the first time, Na-hyun talks about her sister, So-hyun.

So-hyun dreamed of becoming a lawyer. When she died, Na-hyun blamed herself and decided she had no right to chase her own dreams — so she lived her sister’s life instead. This confession reframes everything we know about Na-hyun: the obsessive winning streak, the cold exterior, the refusal to lose. It was never ambition. It was guilt.

Na-hyun gets drunk. Yi-rang calls a chauffeur but cannot leave her alone, so he accompanies her home. Inside, he sees the photos — Na-hyun with her sister, Na-hyun protesting as a child. In her drunken state, Na-hyun whispers: “I wish you could see my sister.”

That night, Yi-rang makes a decision. He returns to the office, tears off the wallpaper, and exposes all the talismans — including a mysterious white one. He lights the incense, breathes in the smoke, and falls asleep.

Outside, the taxi that brought Yi-rang belongs to Na-hyun’s father. He calls his wife: he is parked outside the shaman’s office they visited after So-hyun’s death. He is sad to see it has become a law office.

Inside, Yi-rang wakes up. A new ghost stands by the window, watching the stars. She is not hovering like the other ghosts. When she turns around, Yi-rang sees her face — it is So-hyun. Na-hyun’s dead sister.

Episode 8 Preview — So-Hyun’s Case Begins

Episode 8 airs tonight, Saturday April 4 at 9:50 PM KST on SBS and will be available on Netflix with subtitles shortly after.

 3 Questions for Episode 8

First, why is So-hyun’s talisman white? Every previous ghost had a standard talisman. The white one is different — does it mean So-hyun’s case is fundamentally different from the others?

Second, why is So-hyun not floating? Every ghost so far has hovered above the ground. So-hyun stands normally. Is she a different kind of spirit? Is she connected to the office’s shaman history?

Third, will Yi-rang tell Na-hyun? Na-hyun just said she wishes someone could see her sister. Yi-rang now can. This is the most emotionally dangerous case he has ever taken — because the bereaved is the person closest to him.
